Air

 Welcome to Air Class

Air Class 2021-22

Hello and welcome to the Air Class page.

Air Class are the Year 1 and 2 class at Cowick. Miss Salisbury is the teacher in Air Class. She is supported by Mrs Sampler and Mrs Faid. Mrs Chadwick is currently on maternity leave.

We have a lot of exciting things happening in our school and within our class room so please take a look. In Air Class we work incredibly hard to achieve our best and we strive to be friends with everybody. We follow our 'HIVE FIVE RULES'

Our topic for Autumn term was 'Once Upon A Time'. We learnt about Fairytales and linked this topic through our lessons, for example our beanstalk growth experiment linked to our Jack and the Beanstalk story and the links we made between the settings in Fairytales such as Goldilocks and the geography of our own local area.

Our topic for Spring term is 'Marvellous Medicines and Powerful Potions'. This will include some 'magical' elements including applying our knowledge of animal classification and features to design the perfect pet for a wizard! We shall also be travelling back in time to learn about the work Mary Seacole did to nurse sick and injured soldiers and reflect on how our hospitals and medical care systems have changed since the 1800s.

All children have access to Class Dojo. Children have also been given individual log on information for IXL and Oxford Reading Buddy. Watch out on Dojo for up to date information from Miss Salisbury.

At the bottom of the page are some links to various websites/games to help your child in English, Maths, Science and phonics.

Information

What I need to bring daily

Book bag (not a rucksack please as our cloakrooms only have space for coats)

Your child will be given a paper file to keep any sheets sent home in e.g. spellings. This is to protect sheets so they make it home in one piece, please make sure this is kept in book bags for us to send things home in, however sheets do not need returning back to school.

Reading pack/books (including return of any borrowed) in plastic wallet.

A coat (with our unpredictable weather!) or sun cream applied before school on sunny days.

A free piece of fruit and fresh water from the fountain are provided for KS1 every day

PE days are:

Wednesday and Friday. On these days please send children to school in their P.E. Kit with your normal school jumper/cardigan. PE on Wednesdays are with Mr Nichols and on Fridays with Miss Salisbury.

Spellings:

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday in your child's 'Home Folder'. these will be 'tested' on a Friday to identify which words/letter sounds children need to continue to develop and a slip will be sent home to let you know how your child did. We will practise these in school in addition to practising at home and these will be linked to your child's learning in their phonics or 'Get Spelling' lessons in school.

Reading:

Our book changing day is Friday. Please keep your child's book pack in their book bag throughout the week, to allow adults in school to read individually with your child. We encourage children to read each text 3 times to help develop fluency in reading and to recognise words without having to sound out. Please record in your child's reading record every day your child reads, as we give out stamps/tokens for reading 4 times or more per week. In your child's reading record is a login for Oxford Reading Buddy to allow them to read further books if they choose.

If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to make an appointment to come in and see myself. I hope you and your child have a fun filled and enjoyable school year.

Thank you for your support.
