We're out of loo roll!!!

Good morning Cowick families - we have been busy in school preparing for VE day - photos will be added to the website. Are any families celebrating this Friday? How many of you are having (socially distanced) street parties? We have included some ideas that the children might like to try out. Check out the orange 'competition time' tab under the curriculum section on our website. Remember to send in any photographs! Have fun!

As we near VE day and what would have been a time to celebrate, we thought you might want to do some activities with your children at home. Follow the links:

21/4/2020 - STEM from CRODA

For all ages

  • We currently have a daily Tweet going out on Twitter which contains a fun science activity which kids should be able to do with items in their household or garden (you can find this @crodaSTEM on Twitter – you don’t need to follow us to get access so if parents don’t have Twitter there is no concern here, they can still access the content)
  • We are sharing some information and activity sheets based on some of the science we do at Croda. These are being tweeted on a Monday each week – see for more information.

21/4/2020 - for families with children in KS3-5

For KS3 – KS5, Thursday 23rd April. This is not a Croda event, but one of our colleagues is a WISE role model

WISE is a community interest company which aims to increase the participation, contribution and success of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). They have shared an online resource, (of an activity usually done in classrooms), for school age girls to participate in. The idea is introduce them to the types of STEM related roles out there based on their personality traits and how they compare with real life role models.

WISE will be running an online My Skills My Life session Thursday 23rd April 2020, 1 – 3pm, featuring a variety of fantastic role models in the STEM industry. The resource is aimed at girls aged 11-19 and we would encourage them to complete the quiz with their mums, or other female relatives! However, anyone is welcome to join in! This is a fantastic opportunity to meet some inspiring role models in the industry, hear about their jobs and a chance to ask them any questions you may have! What does a typical day look like? Which GCSEs and A Levels did you take?  Register here to join our LIVE session, complete the quiz alongside others from across the UK and meet and interact with role models currently working in STEM!

Please see the book below which has been written to help children understand about COVID-19.

Much excitement in the Woodard household today as a certain boy turns 8 tomorrow. We have started the day productively with phonics for Ella and IXL for both children. Ella completed some maths on BBC bitesize and now William is enthusing over learning all about William the conqueror on Oak National Academy

Ellie C-Massey(a couple of years ago)

Hello everyone! Ellie would just like to share what she has been doing last week. She wrote a letter to the queen which was posted on Friday, asking how the queen is during lockdown and Ellie wanted to know if she still had servants working for her in the castle! She has also been enjoying cosmic kids yoga on YouTube, BBC bitesize maths games, teach your monster how to read phonics games and the NatWest money counter. We also did a science experiment last week, Ellie made her own lava lamp using water, oil, food colouring and alka saltzer tablets. She loved this experiment so much she did it with 6 different food colourings, mixing some of the colours together. We have also started reading Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. As a family we did a salt dough handprint, which we have decided to paint in superhero theme. Ellie chose Spider-Man for her brother, Wonder Woman for herself, Batman for her dad and captain marvel for mum. Today we are going to do some power maths and do an experiment with celery and food colouring! Hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. Ellie x
