Sports Premium

Sports Premium at Cowick CE Primary School

What is the Sports Premium?

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6.

The number of pupils in the school attract the funding using data from the January 2017 school census.

The government provides the Sports Premium to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

Funding for 2017 to 2018

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.

There will be more information in the  conditions of grant, in October 2017

What we have done

Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE

Developed and implemented a year long professional learning plan appropriate for the needs of all staff. This is done with a yearly plan and the staff receiving half term planning. Because of this all staff are confident and competent to deliver high quality PE, the quality of all PE lessons is good or outstanding. Also good practice is shared and feedback sought which drives the effective development of PE.

Supporting and engaging  the least active children through new clubs

Variety of new clubs introduced, as well intra school competitions between year groups. All children feel confident to participate in PE.

Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport and providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport

We are member of The East Ridings Sports Partnership (£1500 per year) which gives us access to a wealth of professional development opportunities for PE and Sport.PE subject leader to support identified staff including a strategy of team teaching across the school, if needed. This is achieved with staff conversations. Also staff will be given a questionnaire this year for staff development

Running sport competitions, and increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games.

Audit, plan and  develop before school, lunch and after school activities, using volunteers, staff and coaches.

Through the East Ridings Sports Partnership, there is a detailed and varied programme of Inter-School events across the year. Also we have implemented a promotional campaign to ensure as many children as possible attend extra-curricular clubs regularly.

Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport.

We are investing in planning resources to help support quality PE as well as expanding our range of equipment to help develop skills as well as to help all pupils engage successfully in physical activity.
